Welcome to Viewpoints, the online, interactive education discussion published by the Nellie Mae Education Foundation

SUMMARY OF THE CURRENT TOPIC:

The latest edition of Viewpoints features an audio discussion with Chris Gabrieli, Co-Founder and Chairman of Massachusetts 2020.

In 2000, Gabrieli co-founded Massachusetts 2020, an educational nonprofit focused on expanding the economic and educational opportunities for children and families across Massachusetts.

Under the leadership of Gabrieli and Co-Founder Jennifer Davis, Massachusetts 2020 has led the way in developing the nation’s first Expanded Learning Time Initiative (ELT).  In September 2006, ten Massachusetts public schools in five districts with 4,700 students became the pioneers of this work, adding about two hours per day to school schedules for all students.

Viewpoints recently sat down with Gabrieli to discuss the current state of ELT in Massachusetts, and its implications on some long-held assumptions about how children are educated.

After you listen to the discussion, please share your thoughts with us via the add your voice to the discussion page.

We hope you enjoy this edition of Viewpoints.
